Some 50,000 British Territorials served in India during the Great War.
This book is the first to be written about them.
The Territorials went to India to replace Regulars for the front. At first, they were deployed only for garrison duty, not to fight on the North-West Frontier or in Mesopotamia.
Gradually, though, they gained the skills to be sent to war, and most of the Territorial battalions sent to India saw service on the North-West Frontier, and Mesopotamia, but also in Aden, and even in the Third Afghan War.
